Molds can be found everywhere, indoors and outdoors. Mold is not usually a problem but can cause a stuffy/runny nose, sore throat, coughing or wheezing, burning eyes and skin rash. Molds can trigger asthma episodes in individuals with asthma. People with asthma and mold sensitivity may have severe reactions. Immune-compromised people and individuals with chronic lung disease may get infections in their lungs from mold. Some molds release toxins called mycotoxins, which have the most detrimental impact on all individuals. Stachybotrys, aka "deadly black mold" is one of the most commonly recognized molds producing mycotoxins. The only way to determine the type(s) of mold present is to sample the mold and send it to a lab for analysis. Test results are received in 1-2 business day.
